Elke Smeets holds a PhD in psychology and is an internationally recognised expert in positive psychology. She lectures at Maastricht University, coaches professionals and leaders, and is head psychologist at the Intensive Care Unit at University Hospital Leuven.

That range gives her a rare view of what makes people resilient. With the professionals she coaches, she works on energy, focus and growth in demanding jobs. In the hospital, she sees how patients, families and care teams find strength in the hardest moments. Science and practice come together in everything she does.

Elke is also a singer and lends her voice to several bands. Years on stage have given her a natural presence and a feel for the room, and you notice it the moment she starts a keynote.

She co-authored the book Geluk & optimisme (Happiness & Optimism, available in Dutch). Audiences leave her talks moved, with fresh energy and concrete ideas they can put to work the very next day.
